RIGHTS & DUTIES

The world we live in is constantly framed through a world of rights. Gun rights, women's rights, gay rights. Yet, the fact that debate around these issues even exist show us that rights - and our duties to uphold these rights, is subjective at best and divisive at worst. How we negotiate whose rights and whose duties is a constant conversation that requires evaluation at every level.

I approach this issue of rights and duties through a wide range of methods. We can look to the family, and see children negotiate their rights (freedoms) in relation to their duties (responsibilities). We can see it in our media, where we couple every story with a framing of rights versus duties, and experimental results showing that duties may be more beneficial in the end.
